AfterHVAC Company in Wrightwood, CA
At roughly 6,000 feet in the San Gabriel Mountains, Wrightwood presents HVAC challenges you won’t find anywhere else in Southern California. We derate furnace output for altitude, recalculate airflow for thin mountain air, and winterize outdoor units against real snow. Most calls to Coldharbour Heating & Air come from owners of vintage cabins and A-frames built between the 1940s and 1970s, many with retrofitted heating systems and minimal insulation. If your furnace won’t fire on the first cold weekend of ski season, or your AC quits during a July heat push into the upper 80s, call us at (817) 402-2972. A live person answers 24 hours a day.
Why Wrightwood Homes Are Different
Wrightwood’s housing stock tells the story. Weekend retreats from the Los Angeles Basin, these cabins and A-frames were never designed for year-round climate control. Crawlspaces run unconventional. Insulation, if it exists, is often original and compressed. Heating systems were added after construction, routed through tight framing with limited access for service.
The altitude changes everything we do. Gas furnaces lose approximately 4% output per 1,000 feet above sea level, so a 60,000 BTU unit performs closer to 45,000 BTU here. We calculate that before recommending equipment. Lower air density means blower motors work harder to move the same volume. An HVAC tech from Victorville or the Inland Empire flatlands rarely encounters these calculations.
Then there’s the seasonal pattern. Many Wrightwood homes sit empty for months. Systems go dormant. Rodents nest in heat exchangers. When that first October cold snap hits, we see a predictable wave of no-ignition calls, dirty pilots, and tripped high-limit switches. Our technicians head into fall with thermocouple kits and flue-cleaning tools already on the truck.
Our Main Wrightwood Services
Most calls we get from Wrightwood homeowners fall into three categories: cooling repair in summer, heating repair when temperatures drop, and full system replacement when age or altitude exposure finally wins.
AC Repair in Wrightwood
Cooling demand in Wrightwood is modest but real. July and August can push the upper 80s, and A-frames with western exposure heat up fast. We handle refrigerant leaks, compressor failures, and capacitor replacements on systems that often sit idle nine months of the year. That dormancy itself causes problems: seals dry out, contacts corrode, and mice chew low-voltage wiring in outdoor units. AC Repair in Wrightwood covers diagnosis through repair, with our written 365-Day Done Right Promise on every job.
Furnace Repair in Wrightwood
This is where Wrightwood’s mountain climate shows its teeth. Propane furnaces, common in older cabins, develop pilot and thermocouple issues after summer dormancy. Heat exchangers corrode or get blocked by rodent nests. High-limit switches trip from restricted airflow. We stock the parts that fail predictably here, and we know the flue configurations these retrofitted systems use. Furnace Repair in Wrightwood gets your heat back before the next storm drops snow.
AC Installation in Wrightwood
When a system is too far gone for repair, we size replacement equipment for altitude-adjusted load, not sea-level charts. Outdoor condensers must be elevated or protected against snow burial and ice damming. We handle the load calculation, equipment selection, and installation scheduling, plus any rebate paperwork. AC Installation in Wrightwood delivers a written fixed price before work begins and a set install date, not a vague “sometime next week.”

What Wrightwood Customers Say
"AC died overnight with a newborn in the house. They bumped us up the list and had it running by noon. I about hugged the guy. Fair price even on a rush call."
- Celeste Ngo"The repair was done well and quickly. Scheduling over the phone was a little clunky and I got transferred twice, but the tech himself was great and on time."
- Brett Haygood"Furnace was short cycling all winter. They diagnosed a bad sensor instead of condemning the whole unit like I feared. Cheap fix, honest call."
