AfterHVAC Company in Novato, CA
Coldharbour Heating & Air serves Novato with AC repair, furnace repair, and AC installation backed by written upfront pricing and a 365-Day Done Right Promise. Novato’s inland valley location pushes summer temperatures into the low-to-mid 90s while most Marin County stays coastal-cooled, yet the dominant housing stock of 1960s-70s tract homes was built without cooling in mind. That gap between climate reality and original construction shapes nearly every job we run here. Call (817) 402-2972 for a free estimate or to speak with a live person any time of day.
Why Novato Homes Are Different
Novato sits in an inland Marin valley shielded from the marine layer by surrounding hills, producing summer temperature spikes 20-30°F higher than coastal Marin communities just miles away. The Petaluma Gap wind corridor drives hot, dry air through the area, stressing equipment that was never sized for a cooling load.
The residential core along both sides of Highway 101 is largely 1960s-70s single-story and split-level tract homes on slab or raised foundations, most with original forced-air gas furnaces and duct systems designed only for heating. The Hamilton neighborhood adds its own complexity: redeveloped from the former Hamilton Air Force Base, it mixes converted 1940s military structures with 1990s-2000s planned infill. We’ve stood on the same street and found a thick-masonry converted barracks with improvised duct chases next to a modern townhome with a split system. The load calculations and code compliance strategies that work on one building are irrelevant on the next lot over.
Winters are mild but damp, with enough chill for consistent heating demand. The combination means Novato systems work harder in both seasons than their original designers anticipated.
Our Main Novato Services
Most calls we get from Novato fall into three categories, each with its own local considerations.
AC Repair in Novato
When an AC fails in Novato during a summer spike, the house heats fast. We carry capacitors, contactors, and refrigerant to handle the common failures on systems that are often running at capacity they weren’t built for. Our technicians are trained on nine major brands including Trane, Lennox, and Rheem, so the part we need is usually on the truck. Every repair comes with a written 365-Day Done Right Promise. AC Repair in Novato covers what to expect when we arrive, typical repair ranges, and how we handle same-day calls.
Furnace Repair in Novato
Novato’s damp winters put steady wear on ignition systems and heat exchangers in aging furnaces. We see a lot of original 1970s units still running in the Ignacio and Bahia neighborhoods, and we know the difference between a repair that buys another season and one that doesn’t make sense. Before any work starts, you’ll get a written price. If we repair it and the same part fails within 365 days, we come back at no charge. Furnace Repair in Novato has full details on diagnostics, common failures, and what same-day service looks like.
AC Installation in Novato
Central AC retrofits are a primary driver of our Novato work, not an afterthought. Many homes here need ductwork upsizing or modification to handle a cooling load the original builder never considered. We run Manual J load calculations for every install, account for the solar gain on south-facing slabs in neighborhoods like Pacheco Valle, and specify equipment that matches Novato’s actual climate rather than a generic Marin profile. The price is fixed in writing before work begins, and we handle rebate paperwork where it applies. AC Installation in Novato walks through sizing, timing, and what to expect.

What Novato Customers Say
"AC died overnight with a newborn in the house. They bumped us up the list and had it running by noon. I about hugged the guy. Fair price even on a rush call."
- Celeste Ngo"The repair was done well and quickly. Scheduling over the phone was a little clunky and I got transferred twice, but the tech himself was great and on time."
- Brett Haygood"Furnace was short cycling all winter. They diagnosed a bad sensor instead of condemning the whole unit like I feared. Cheap fix, honest call."
